Why Massage Therapy?
According to the U.S. Dept. of Labor, the massage industry is ranked 20th out of the top 50 fastest growing occupations in the United States. The national average percent change is 13% for the 2004 - 2014 employment projection series. Massage therapy is growing faster than the national average at 24%.
Consumers now spend between $4 and $6 billion annually on visits to massage therapists. Doctors are increasingly turning to massage as an alternative to regular health practices such as prescription medications. Therefore, health insurers such as Kaiser Permanente, American Western Life, Group Health Cooperative and Oxford Health Plans are expanding coverage to include these alternative practices.
